Exhibits Permanent Banco de la República Art Collection consisting of nearly 3,000 paintings, sculptures and assembly of Colombian and Latin American masters from the XVI century to our days. Visitors may appreciate a selection of Colombian painters works, for instance Gregorio Vázquez de Arce y Ceballos, the most important Colony painter, Alejandro Obregón, Enrique Grau, Latin American as Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros and many other globally renowned.

The Center performs important pedagogic and publication tasks promoting natural wealth of the country valuation and preservation knowledge. A stone trail leads across the entire tour, starting by panels and interactive games to teach the relation between men and earth; the next room explains general programs developed by the National Natural Parks System: ecotourism, scientific research and architecture, among other.

Finally, an environmental education module illustrates the different national territory ecosystems using pieces made from biodegradable material. The system features an eco-shop selling objects made by different Colombian indigenous communities and private sector companies supporting national parks work.

Luis Angel Arango Library entrance hall permanently exhibits musical instruments such as Colombian Tiple from the XIX century Teófilo Potes’ Marimba of 1960 from Buenaventura, the Harp of Colombia from the XVIII century and calabazo Violoncello from 1911, among other instruments collected by literate and passionate music lover Monsignor José Ignacio Perdomo, whose family donated Banco de la República, after his death, the collection named after him, who attentive to Colombian cultural wealth preservation dedicated his life to restoring and classifying sample instruments.

Apparently temple project began in 1619 reminding doctrine temples located in indigenous villages dimensions: a long one alley rectangle covered by cannon dome, foot chorus and main arch leading to the Presbyterian. Recently discovered below wall architecture wall painting from the XVII and XVIII centuries with phytomorphic ornamental paintings. The two exterior facades have windows in the upper sections and narrow asymmetric skylight grids, determining the same degree of relation required between the interior and the exterior space.

Adjacent convent was demolished in 1912 and 1914. The church continued devoted to worship up to mid 60s. During the decade of the 80s the church was restored and is currently opened as Colonial Art museum. Inside numerous paintings framed by magnificent plat bands or embedded in precious retable outstand, and chorus blinds recall clusters life.

Under Eduardo Santos administration on August 6, 1942 the Colonial Museum containing Viceroy-ship art, silver plates, the Virgin of the Light and the most characteristic Gregorio Vásquez de Arce y Ceballos collection, among other valuable Colombian culture treasures opened its doors. Declared National Monument National in 1975, Las Aulas Cloister is one of the oldest buildings in Bogotá.

Exhibits a complete collection of modern art work basically consisting of drawing, paintings, engraved work, sculpture and assembly. The moderns building, designed by architect Rogelio Salmona, achieves optimum space and natural light management. Temporary exhibitions take place at different rooms and patios gathering topics associated to modern art. The museum offers library, library-store and restaurant services and great movie featuring.

The museum exhibits popular and indigenous artisan work. Indigenous room is mounted to synthesize artisan production aspects, indigenous inhabiting the Colombian territory living conditions, housing and cultural rites. Basketry, ceramics, wood carving and woven garments from Andean, Pacific, Caribbean, Amazon Orinoco geographic regions are exhibited. Counts on a store and San Agustín Cloister restaurant specialized and typical Colombian food. In 1992 under the direction of the National Roads Institute building restoration began.

Permanently exhibiting numerous stuffed animals arranged in windows and dioramas illustrating representative African, Asian, Australian and American fauna species evolution. Fossil remains and stuffed animal species such as guio (anaconda) polar bear, kangaroo, monkeys and a complete bird sample outstand.

Classified as one of the most important collections of the country concerning vegetal, birds, reptiles, insects and mammals. Offer special programs for schools and universities and didactic material booklets sale.

Founded in 1968, as space dedicated to preserving urban intervention and to provide a sight of public works developed in Bogotá, within historical, social and cultural context. In 1995 the Museum was closed on temporary basis and reopened in 2000, starting a new phase inside Bogotá District Planetarium. Bogotá XX Century sample shows using gigantic panels in sequential order, main city events during the XX century: urban growth problems, economic relations, urban life, articulation within the territory, different plans and administration decisions. The exhibition is the outcome of research illustrated by photographs, maps, text and graphs, a complete resemblance of Bogotá urban development.

Exhibition is accompanied of varied nature objects: telephones, watches, strike poles and water conduction pipes. Another exhibition is the Public Space throughout the city, a critical and comprehensive approach to public space uses and perceptions, configured along Bogotá history. Exhibition catalog presents the work Saúl Orduz, photographer of the city, an aerial photograph pioneer, the sample lets you appreciate urban evolution process, witness the city way of life and the print the past has left in each space of the Bogotá.

The objective is to illustrate communications evolution process both in Colombia and the world. The series of panels arranged in the second floors explain, using photographs and text, primitive communications systems, writing, photography, telegraph, radio, cinema, television, satellites, optic fiber and Empresa National de Telecomunicaciones (Telecom) history. You will see a “maguaré” indigenous communication instrument used by Huitoto Indians from the Amazon. The first floor exhibits telegraph, telephone and commuter equipment and devices, together with a rich radio, tape recorders and television sets collection.

Universal painting masters works reproduction collection. A large transitory exhibition room programming exhibitions organized by historical or topic cycles supported by art guides team and audiovisual/film material associated to the topic. Museum of Museums started activities in 1969 with “Universal Painting Panorama”.

The institution programs itinerant exhibitions, provides support consultation and research services associated to universal history, art and museum science, also sells posters, reproductions, post cards, videos and didactic games and promotes argument and documentary movies cycles, conferences and courses.

Museum created in 1972 was the home of Manuelita Sáenz, restless companion of Liberator Simón Bolívar. The museum is dedicated to typical garments and autochthonous weaving from the different regions and ethnic groups of the nation. The museum houses a complete collection of Colombian textiles from their Pre-Columbian cultures origin to our days.

The museum exhibits beetling machines, looms, artisan textiles, laces, hats and accessories. Of special interest woven textiles made by Pre-Columbian cultures and by current indigenous communities. The museum also exhibits artisan work associated to popular garments.

Museographer mounting using stuffed species, skeletons and fossils organized by sections illustrating different topics associated to marine life. The tour starts with a presentation of polar zones, tropical coasts, Oceania and high sea. Fossil sections and geological areas, marine birds, particular environments, and fishing and navigation devices, among other, are of great interest.

The collection includes curious pieces exhibited in different places such as a giant clam and manatee. dolphin and wing whale skeletons. Counts on small aquariums showing live hedgehogs, lobsters and crabs.

Banco de la República Gold Museum collection was declared National Monument and is considered the most important of the type in the world. Includes nearly 34,000 pieces of gold and 20,000 bone, lithic and ceramic objects and textiles pertaining to Calima, Quimbaya, Muisca, Tairona, Sinú, Tolima, Malagana cultures, among other.

The lower floor houses temporary anthropology and archeology exhibitions, the second floor provides a tour through archeological regions enhancing their economy, goldsmith techniques and different aspects associated to death. Poporos, masks, pectorals, hangers, necklaces, bracelets and hundreds of figures are exhibited in windows or as models.

The third floor explores such pieces symbolism to Pre-Columbian cultures. The Golden Room exhibits in a mysterious environment over 8,000 gold pieces.

The Museum pretends to rescue daily life activities, landscaping, uses and literature of that time in Colombia exhibiting furniture, decorative and artistic objects, writing and ornamental XIX century pieces. Organized by thematic rooms: garments, applied arts, furniture and decoration, portraits, landscape, miniature, pencil drawings and caricatures. The tour through the Library of the Poor is of great interest since it reflects a valuable traditional medicine of the time.

Originally colonial the house subsequently expanded and furnished as ordered by the owner Don José María Valenzuela; classified as “republican architecture” prevailing in Colombia between 1830 and 1930. From the second decade this century the house lodged public offices, the Ministry of War among other; later on and up to 1948, it was María Inmaculada school, one of the best kwon in Bogotá during the first half of the century known as “Las Casas School” named after school directors. The school was placed second within educational institutions, acquired in 1977 by Cultural Coffee Fund, which restored the house sponsored by Banco Cafetero and Almadelco. XIX Century Museum from 1980.

Art collection donated by Colombian master Fernando Botero catalogued as the most important in the history of the country. Donation delivered Banco de la República integrates nearly 120 Botero drawings mainly, aquarelle, oleo, pastel techniques and sculptures.

Also including over sixty canvas from most representative history of art creators late in the XIX century and the first half of the XX century, for instance Picasso, Renoir, Dalí, Matisse, Monet, Degas, Chagall, Giacometti and Bonard, among other. Collection exhibited in former Luis López de Mesa Hemerotheca, subsequently known as Exhibition House and now permanent Botero Donation home.

Founded August 3, 1973. Is unique of the type, inviting to controverter topics observation, analysis and meditation. Rescues values and cultural identity, commits the population with respect to life, abortion prevention, psychoactive substances, alcohol and cigarette consumption, among other. High school and pre-graduation students are provided anatomic human nature approach. Gathers a collection of careful human dissection seen from all angles, and detail organs and systems. You may observe the human body inside and admire human embryo development from the first days to birth. Exposition guided tour ends in the auditorium with audiovisual presentation allowing space for discussion and information.

Academic complement for use of schools and universities, particularly Biology, Behavior, Health and Medicine areas. The first floor contains embryo and fetus development, sexual education, abortion prevention, awareness of damages caused by psychoactive substances, bad nourishing habits and audit/visual damage prevention. In the second floor, further proposed topics deepening: congenital diseases, genetics, environmental causes and normal systems.

Located in Presidential Guard Infantry Battalion premises, the museum exhibits objects, writings and books belonging to Sabio Caldas and pieces of scientific-historical interest, enhancing Expedition books, cartographic maps and surveys over different geographic areas of Colombia and a sample of engineering instruments consisting of telescopes, hypsometry, metal detectors, exploders and transits, among other.

The house located on Lyon of France street formed part of a set of the most important colonial houses of Santafé; it has a garden framed by upper balconies on three sides. The lower entrance section formed by two arches over stone columns, a wide entrance with nail garnished wooden door and back door. The back of the house ended in a yard planted with fruit trees. Double stairs lead to the second floor with several bedrooms and living rooms with doors decorated with gold leaf covered wood engravings.

Museum rooms organized chronologically allowing the visitor to obtain a clear idea of National Police historical evolution. Replicas of codes and laws governing men life in society, miniatures representing uniforms worn in 100 countries of the world and diorama offering an authority concept with narrative, musical and luminous-technical effects providing a vision of the authority concept from prehistory to our times are of interest.

The museum provides information on authority, laws, penalties and punishment, ensigns, badges, heraldic, communications, uniforms and specialties. The building of marked French influence is a beautiful sample of republican architecture.

Caro y Cuervo Institute unit located at Andrés Bello Seminar facilities – the entity’s school center – housing objects surrounding the life of most important poets, literates and intellectual of the XIX century in Colombia. The museum, opening its doors for over eighty years was originally installed in Yerbabuena hacienda, current Caro y Cuervo research site, subsequently transferred to Andrés Bello Seminar, preserved to this date and the place all people wishing to see valuable objects therein kept may accede.

Gathers pieces and objects witnessing Colombian Military Forces history. The Army room exhibits an arm collection covering from powder to spears used in the Plains and to steel and fire arms. The Navy rooms exhibits ship models, different navy devices and a set of pictures showing Navy history on the two seas bathing Colombian coasts. The Air Force room shows aircraft models including Caudron G-3 fighter, AT6 trainers, versatile C47 and supersonic Mirage M5, Of special interest the model with moving light and sound effects illustrating Pantano de Vargas battle.

The National Museum is the oldest in the country and one of the oldest in the continent, built in 1823. Its fortress architecture is built in stone and brick. The plant includes arches, domes and columns forming a sort of Greek cross over which 104 prison cells are distributed, with solid wall façade. The first prison built in 1874, known as the Panóptico (prison only up to 1946), to replace different localities used for such purpose in Bogotá, for that reason the largest building of the city was built during the second decade of the XIX century. In 1948 the building was adapted for National Museum and restored in 1975. Most recent intervention implied substantial rooms and support services modernization, placing the museum in the Colombian cultural vanguard.

The museum houses a collection of over 20,000 pieces including works of art and objects representing different national history periods. Permanent exhibitions present archeology and ethnography samples from most antique Colombian men vestiges, 10,000 years BC, up to XX century indigenous and afro- Enlarge Colombian art and culture. Founders and New Kingdom of Granada room houses rich Liberators and other Spanish authorities iconography; the round room exhibits a series of oleos synthesizing Colombia painting history.

The 57 paintings by masters Fernando Botero, Alejandro Obregón and Guillermo Wiedemann sample is of special interest. The Museum offers a lovely Shop-Café located next to the north garden, a warm place, decorated with artistic and historical replicas serving as restaurant and shop. Side by side the Coffee Pavilion, offering diverse national beverage preparations.

PHOTO-MUSEUM

Emerges August 18, 1998 as a non profit foundation subject to Culture Law seeking: 1. To compile, restore, preserve and promote Photographic Memory, while promoting and consolidating Colombian photographic art. 2. To build national photographic archive. 3. To preserve photographic wealth. 4. To seek national and international acknowledgment of photographs so deserving. 5. To generate local photographers formation, updating qualification processes.

FPHOTO-MUSEUM ON THE STREET
The most direct way to reach the public. Itinerant exhibitions using movable modules, beautifully designed, made of stainless steel and high resistance glass 2.27 m high by 1.10 m wide, leveling and outdoors resistant exhibited from August 2000 in different points of Bogotá and other cities of the country. In the past two years 13 samples were organized, among them Héctor Acebes, León Darío Peláez, Rubén Afanador, Abdú Eljaiek, Carlos Caicedo and great international master Martín Chambi; enjoyed as calculated by nearly two million people per month including pedestrians and visitors.

PHOTO-MARATHON
An event promoting creativity and cultural richness. One took place in 2001 widely supported by photographic community of the country, massive communication media and the entire city population. Over 800 photographers and their assistants walked the city for two days to leave a testimony of XXI century. Photo-marathon became the only largest photography feast in Colombia and the event originating the fifth exhibition designated “Images of the City”, a selection by Photo-marathon jury.
